The investment

Why a boat is the best thing you'll own in Bermuda.

Bermuda is 21 square miles surrounded by some of the clearest water on the planet. The best of this island isn't on the roads; it's the reef stops, the pink-sand coves, the wrecks, the calm anchorages you can only reach by boat. Owning one changes how you live here.

The island opens up

Horseshoe Bay, Shelly Bay, Cooper's Island, Tobacco Bay, the most photographed corners of Bermuda are 15 minutes from your dock. No crowds, no parking, no commute. Just go.

Calm water, year-round access

Inside the reef line Bermuda's water is some of the calmest in the world. Most weekends from April to November are boatable. Even January gives you flat-water days.

Resale stays strong

Bermuda has a fixed, limited supply of boats. Demand stays steady. A well-kept boat holds its value better here than almost anywhere, and we'll be the first call when you're ready to sell.

Pay duty once. Then it's yours.

Bermuda's 22.25% import duty is paid one time at registration. After that there's no annual luxury tax on the boat itself. The asset is yours, free and clear.

Charter it back when you're not using it

Want it to earn while you're at work? We can help you set up a charter side income. Sean will share the rate sheet and partner with you on bookings if that's the play.

Family asset for generations

Most Bermuda boats stay in families. Kids learn to drive on the same hull their parents learned on. It's a piece of the island you actually pass down.

Real boats. Real owners.

Boat sales questions.

Can you import a boat to Bermuda?+

Yes, BDA Boats has imported hundreds of boats to Bermuda over twenty years. We handle the full process: sourcing the boat from US, Canadian or European brokers, arranging shipping to Bermuda, clearing customs and import duty, registering the boat with the Bermuda Maritime Authority and delivering to your dock. Typical timeline from order to delivery is 6 to 12 weeks depending on origin and shipping schedule. We can also source specific models on request including center consoles, sport fishers, day cruisers, pontoon boats and personal watercraft.

How much is Bermuda import duty on a boat?+

Bermuda import duty on a recreational boat is currently 22.25 percent of the CIF value, which is the cost of the boat plus insurance and freight to Bermuda. This rate is set by Bermuda Customs and is subject to government change at any time. BDA Boats includes a transparent breakdown of duty, shipping, registration and our fee in every import quote so there are no surprises at the dock. We can also help you compare the all-in cost of importing a new boat versus buying a used boat already on island.

Do you finance boat purchases?+

Bermuda banks offer marine financing on boat purchases. We can introduce you to a banker familiar with marine deals and provide a survey and pricing comp to support the application. Financing approval is usually faster on used boats already in Bermuda since the bank can inspect the asset directly. Send Sean a WhatsApp with the boat you are considering and your budget for a quick yes or no.

How long does it take to import a boat to Bermuda?+

From signed order to delivery at your dock, typical timeline is 6 to 12 weeks. Boats from the US East Coast (Florida especially) ship fastest, usually 4 to 6 weeks. European or new-build orders can run 10 to 14 weeks depending on the manufacturer's queue. We give you a written timeline with each quote and update you weekly while the boat is in transit. Customs clearance and Bermuda Maritime Authority registration add about a week on the back end.

Can you survey a boat I'm thinking of buying?+

Yes. We work with licensed marine surveyors in Bermuda and can arrange a full pre-purchase survey, sea trial and engine inspection. We can also fly in a surveyor for boats located in the US if the deal is big enough. Surveys typically run a few hundred dollars depending on the boat's size and complexity. Worth every dollar. We've walked away from boats based on survey findings more than once.

Do you offer boat storage?+

Not at the moment, storage isn't part of what we do. We can recommend Bermuda marinas, boatyards and private storage operators we work with regularly when boats need a home between seasons or during hurricane months. Several have monthly and annual rates.
